The webinar will feature an introduction from Her Honour Judge Sapnara, Designated Family Judge at the Central Family Court in London and a Diversity Community Relations Judge. Her Honour Judge Sapnara has sat on various boards, charitable institutions and gave the Bridget Lindley Memorial Lecture at the Family Justice Council Conference on 12th March 2025 on ‘Inclusive Justice: Race, Culture and the Family Courts’. Her Honour Judge Sapnara will share her valuable insights into issues pertaining to the presumption of parental involvement from a judicial perspective.
There will talks by Tracey Bignall, the Director of Policy & Engagement and Eleni Bloy, Parental Conflict Lead at the Race Equality Foundation who are two of the co-authors of the report concerning the review of the presumption of parental involvement in private law cases.
Tracey Bignall has undertaken research, policy and practice development work across a range of health and social care areas. She has examined support for Black, Asian and minority ethnic autistic adults for a local authority, co-authored several reports and is a member of a number of advisory groups.
Eleni Bloy is an accredited Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities (SFSC) parenting programme facilitator and previously worked as a specialist family law solicitor. She was one of the first solicitors in the UK to achieve accreditation by Resolution.
Their research report authored in partnership with We Stand forms part of the Ministry of Justice’s wider review of the presumption of parental involvement in private family law cases. Why is this research important? Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic parents are often underrepresented in family justice research. This work seeks to address this gap, ensuring their voices are placed at the centre of this critical debate about family justice. Tracey Bignall and Eleni Bloy will be presenting their findings and how those working in the family justice system can utilise the messages from their research in their own practices to improve children and parents’ experiences.
